Director G Ashok who is basking in the success of Anushka Shetty-starrer ‘Bhaagamathie’, in Telugu Industry  is all set to helm an international project. Titled ‘Komagata Maru 1914’, the period drama will be based on the historic Komagata Maru incident that took place in 1914 during the British Raj. The SS. Komagata Maru is the name of the ship that travelled from Hong Kong to Vancouver in 1914,

carrying 376 Indian citizens who tried to emigrate to Canada. But upon reaching Vancouver, Komagata Maru was denied entry due to the exclusion law set by Canada to keep out Asian immigrants. Only 24 of them were admitted to Canada, but the other 352 passengers were forced to return to India after a two-month standoff at the docks of Vancouver.

 The movie will be bankrolled by Mehmood Ali of Pen N Camera production house in association with the Canadian Film Council. It is expected to go on floors in June. The makers are planning to shoot the film in India, China, Hong Kong and Canada.
